SAYING YES TO THE DRESS
You've said yes to your boyfriend, now it's time to say yes to the dress! There is some strategy to this whole process of finding your dream dress. Here are some tips that you should know before heading to the store!
1. Shop Sooner Rather Than Later
Make sure you go at least 8 months or more before your big day. Otherwise, you may not have enough time to get alterations, which could take up to 5 months.
2. Go On A Weekend
You may think going on a weekday will be less busy, but on weekends, there are often designer trunk shows and discounts. Bonus!
3. Family First
Only bring your very nearest and dearest to your dress appointment: mom, grandmother, sister, or cousin. Keep it to a maximum of five people. Otherwise, there won’t be enough seats in the fitting room!
4. Wear Proper Support
You will be changing in front of everyone, and wearing very, very little clothing at times. You’ll need a nude strapless bra , shapewear to slim and smooth out any unwanted bumps, and heels the same height you plan on wearing, so you can get an idea of an appropriate hemline.
5. Be Vocal
Tell your consultant up front what your budget is, pick out sample wedding dresses that you want to try on, and be honest. It’s okay to hear from family, but once you’ve tried on a dress, you should be the first to speak. It is your dress! Say out loud what you like and don’t like about each dress, and then rank them in order of your favorites. Also, ask to try on accessories, too. It becomes more real wearing a veil and sash.
6. Get Movin’
Don’t just stand on the pedestal! Walk around in each wedding dress! Try sitting, walking quickly, even dancing in the bridal shop!
7. Eat Before you go
Trying on wedding dresses is physically and emotionally draining. Food will give you energy during the process.
8. Never Underestimate Your Consultant
They deal with hundreds of brides, so they know their stuff. They listen to what you want: lace, no strapless, fit ‘n’ flare, v-neckline and illusion back, and in the end their pick, is the one!
9. No Cameras
Many bridal shops won’t let you take pictures! Usually, you can only take a picture of the dress you plan to purchase not your options. You can always try to be secret about it though, but you may get yelled at!
